Dr
Spatharis’ research focuses on the diversity, productivity, and ecological
dynamics of coastal and marine ecosystems, with particular expertise in
phytoplankton, plankton‑borne disease vectors, biofouling, and sustainable
aquaculture. She employs field monitoring, experimental systems, and
ecological modelling to investigate how communities coexist and respond to
environmental change. Dr Spatharis also directs undergraduate programmes in
Zoology and Marine & Freshwater Biology and is a Principal Investigator
in the Marine Diagnostics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Glasgow University.
