Dr Clokie earned his BSc (Hons) in Aquaculture in 2009, completed his PhD in 2017, and continued as a postdoctoral fellow before taking up his current academic role. His research focuses on the commercial production of finfish aquaculture species, exploring how environmental and husbandry factors—such as light regimes, nutrition, and production systems—influence development and overall animal health. Using advanced molecular techniques, including transcriptomics, metagenomics, and microbiome profiling, he investigates gill microbial communities to understand how this critical organ responds to environmental change. Ultimately, his work seeks to uncover fundamental biological mechanisms that can support innovation and sustainability in aquaculture.
