Speaker Spotlight: Helge Adne Lien, DNB Bank ASA
Aquaculture UK returns to SEC Glasgow on 16-17 June, spotlighting the people and technologies driving the future of aquaculture. Joining this year’s speaker line-up is Helge Adne Lien, Managing Director at DNB Bank ASA.

What first drew you to specialise in the seafood sector, and what's kept you focused on it?
I was initially drawn to the seafood sector because it combines strong industrial fundamentals with global relevance. What has kept me focused is how rapidly the industry is evolving – driven by technological development, innovation in aquaculture, and increasing demands for high quality proteins. The sector has, since I started, become the 2nd largest industry in Norway (after oil and gas) and I find it extremely exiting.
From a banker’s perspective, what separates the businesses that thrive from those that struggle in the industry?
From a banker’s perspective, the businesses that truly thrive are those that combine strong operational discipline with a deep understanding of biological risk. They typically have robust cost control, solid balance sheets, and a long-term approach to both investment and risk management.
Those that struggle often underestimate volatility – whether it’s biological, regulatory, or market-driven – and lack the financial flexibility to absorb shocks when they occur.
What do you want visitors to take away from your session at Aquaculture UK 2026?
I hope visitors take away that aquaculture is entering a new phase, where technology, data, and capital discipline are reshaping the industry.
Those who can combine innovation with robust risk management will be best positioned to drive both growth and long-term value creation.
Why is an event like Aquaculture UK so important for the industry right now?
It’s where leaders come together to share insight, challenge assumptions, and shape how the industry grows going forward.
