Sam
Laurenson is a mussel farmer based in the Shetland Islands, working in one of
the most northerly aquaculture regions in the United Kingdom. He entered the
industry in 2013 and has built practical experience across all stages of
rope-grown mussel production, from seeding and husbandry to harvesting and
preparing mussels for market. Operating in the exposed waters of the North
Atlantic requires constant attention to weather, equipment, and stock. Sam’s
approach focuses on practical problem-solving, efficient systems, and
producing high-quality shellfish from Shetland’s clean, nutrient-rich seas.
