Mark
Shotter is Project Director at Loch Long Salmon (LLS), where he leads the
development of one of Scotland’s most high-profile next-generation salmon
farming projects.
LLS is pioneering the use of semi-closed containment systems as post-smolt
facilities in Scotland, designed to improve fish health and welfare while
reducing environmental interactions in open water. The project integrates
Norwegian-proven technology with Scotland’s regulatory and environmental
framework, representing a significant step forward in the evolution of the
sector.
With a background in complex infrastructure and marine project delivery,
Mark brings extensive experience in strategy, stakeholder engagement and
regulatory processes. He has managed LLS’s Beinn Reithe project through a
multi-year planning and appeal process, culminating in Ministerial approval
in 2025.
At Aquaculture UK, Mark will share insights on innovation, regulatory
navigation, and the role of post-smolt systems in shaping a resilient and
responsible future for Scottish salmon farming.
